Mou Chapori

Mou Chapori is located about 13 kms from Jorhat and is truly a nature’s paradise. It’s a luxurious river resort at a small island of the mighty river Brahmaputra; Mou Chapori is one ideal place for family outings and picnics. The resort offers a homely ambience with houseboats, detachable plywood cottages, traditional Assamese and Mishing Chang Ghars, tents, etc. The various activities in the resort include boating, horse riding, camping on the sandy shores and lots more.

Majuli

Majuli, the largest river island in the world situated on the mighty river of Brahmaputra. The 15th century saint, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva first established a Satra here at Majuli. The island is one amazing place to have a good time with friends and family and is an ideal place for picnic near Jorhat. Majuli is known for the satras and the main existing satras at Majuli include the Garamurh Satra, Kamalabari Satra, Dakhinpat Satra, Benegenaati Satra, Samaguri Satra and Auniati Satra. These are treasure houses of the Vaishnav dances and songs initiated by Sankardeva. A walk through the villages and satras of Majuli is a must thing to do.

Majuli is also known for dairy farming, Boat making, handloom, pottery and many other activities. The weaving is Majuli is quite an exclusive one with the use of whole range of colours in cotton and silk that is found only in Assam.

How to Reach Majuli

Majuli is located 20 kms from Jorhat town and buses ply in regular intervals from Jorhat town to Neamati Ghat, which is the main ferry boarding point for Majuli. It takes around three hours from Jorhat to reach Majuli

Bokakhat

Bokakhat is another amazing place for picnic near Jorhat. The place is situated about 23 kms away from the world famous Kaziranga National Park. The Kakochang waterfall is one place in Bokakhat where thousands of people throng throughout the year and is an important picnic spot surrounded with magnificent views and is a complete treat to one’s eyes.

The main attractions in Bokakhat are its natural spots, temples, wildlife, historical sites, satras, archaeological remains, tea gardens, etc.  Other picnic spots near Bokakhat include the tea gardens of Hatikhuli, Diffloo Behora, Deoparbat, Numaligarh, Borsapori and Methoni.
